Tripps closed the original company in 1999 after building a relatively small run of pedals, and he went on to work at Line 6. In the mid-2000s he joined Jim Dunlop Manufacturing; Dunlop announced a Way Huge partnership in early 2008 and brought new pedals to market in 2009, restarting the brand under Dunlop’s Benicia, California production.
Way Huge remains a separate Dunlop brand alongside MXR and Cry Baby, with Tripps continuing as a lead electronics designer. The catalogue mixes revived originals (including later Red Llama editions) with newer Smalls-format and full-size pedals aimed at players who want boutique-derived circuits in factory production. For anyone browsing Dunlop’s effects lines, Way Huge is the Tripps-designed boutique lineage rather than the MXR classics catalogue.
