Tubesteader
Tubesteader is a Canadian maker of valve-powered guitar preamp and overdrive pedals, designed by founder Olly Balan and built by hand in a workshop in Montreal. Each pedal runs a real 12AX7 preamp valve at high internal voltage, roughly 250 to 280 volts depending on the model, while drawing its power from a standard 12-volt wall supply.

Every design takes its cue from the preamp section of a particular kind of valve amplifier. The Beekeeper, the company's first pedal, is a two-channel stacked preamp after the Dumble Overdrive Special. The Lightkeeper is a clean preamp in the same D-style family, the Sunkeeper leans British, the Gainlord aims at hard-rock era Plexi tones, the Eggnog is Tweed-voiced, and the Roy follows the Vox AC30 Top Boost with a high-voltage transistor ahead of its 12AX7.
The early pedals used two 12AX7s and needed about 500 mA. The Eggnog, released in February 2023 as the fourth valve gain pedal and the first in a compact enclosure, replaced the second valve with a MOSFET gain stage and cut the draw to about 300 mA. The pedals are made to work beyond the front of an amp as well: they can feed an effects-loop return or a power amp directly, or sit ahead of cab simulation as a standalone preamp.
