About DigiTech
John Johnson and David O. DiFrancesco founded DOD Electronics in 1974 in the Salt Lake City area. DigiTech was later introduced as the digital signal-processing brand; Mix Online marked DigiTech’s twentieth anniversary at the start of 2005. Early landmarks include the DSP-128 multi-effects processor, intelligent harmoniser and Vocalist products, and the Whammy pedal released around 1990.
After a long period under Harman (and later Samsung’s ownership of Harman), Cort’s parent company Cor-Tek acquired DigiTech and DOD in 2022 and resumed manufacturing and new product development for both brands.
For players researching pitch pedals, loopers and digital multi-effects, DigiTech remains a long-running American reference point alongside its analogue DOD sibling.
