Eight models with a “1” designation are permanent: OD-1, PH-1, SP-1, DS-1, CS-1, TW-1, SG-1 and SD-1. Registering the pedal adds eight more for its eight user slots, among them CE-2, BF-2, DD-2 and PN-2. Further models are licensed as Model Passes in the BOSS Effect Loader app and transferred over Bluetooth or USB-C. Passes released in 2026 include DM-2, DC-2, OD-2, CS-2, PW-2, XT-2, HM-2, HM-3 and MZ-2. Demo versions with a short audio gap every 30 seconds allow testing before purchase.

A DSP engine dedicated to the selected effect handles the processing, while the three knobs follow the original pedal’s controls and a small display shows current values. Stereo input and output serve models that support stereo. One or two footswitches or an expression pedal can swap between two effects or move a parameter in real time, and tap tempo plus TRS MIDI clock sync keep delay models in time.

Bypass is buffered rather than true bypass. The same BOSS models also exist as the BOSS Effects Pedals plug-in on Roland Cloud, so a sound found on the pedal can be recalled in a DAW. Released in 2025.
