The circuit is fully analogue, often spelled analog in US listings, and uses a bucket-brigade delay line like the original. To reach its delay times, the design limits the treble of the repeats, which keeps them darker than the dry signal.
Compared with the DM-2, the main addition is the mode switch. Standard mode follows the DM-2, with delay times from 20 to 300 ms. Custom mode gives a clearer tone and 40 to 800 ms. Neither pedal has a modulation control. Changing the delay time while repeats sound bends their pitch. The DM-2W adds foot control of delay time through an expression pedal on the Rate jack.
The DM-2 had no expression input and no separate dry output. On the DM-2W, a cable in Direct Out takes the dry signal, leaving only delays at Output for a two-amp setup. The DM-2W belongs to Waza Craft, the made-in-Japan BOSS series built around selected analogue components, alongside the BD-2W and SD-1W.
