Gain sets how hard the signal drives the first distortion stage. Sensitivity brings in a second distortion circuit, which adds saturation and low-mid body for different JCM800 voices. Tone rolls off high frequencies after the distortion, and Volume sets the output level.
The controls interact closely, so small moves on Gain and Sensitivity change the character noticeably. Through a clean amplifier or a clean channel, the result sits close to a cranked JCM800 head. Players expecting the compression of a real power amp may find the response tighter and less dynamic.
The metal wedge housing carries a gold top plate with JCM 800 Lead Series lettering, echoing the amplifier front panel. Both jacks sit on the rear face, and a light ring around the footswitch shows when the effect is on. The housing is heavy and large for a drive pedal.
Distortion · Released January 2025
Marshall JCM800 Distortion is a distortion pedal that recreates the gain structure of the JCM800 lead amplifier in a floor unit. Marshall introduced it in January 2025 in a five-pedal series based on its amplifiers: 1959, JCM800, JCM900, DSL and JVM.
