The Wicker switch opens three high-frequency filters, which gives the sustain a raspier, more defined edge. The Tone switch takes the tone control out of the signal path, so the fuzz keeps its full bandwidth and sounds heavier. The two switches give four combinations.
With the Wicker switch off and the Tone switch on, the pedal returns to the standard Big Muff Pi voicing. One box therefore covers the familiar sound and its variations. For other takes on the circuit, see the Big Muff Pi and the Nano Big Muff Pi.
The circuit is analogue and mono, and true bypass keeps the signal path unchanged when the pedal is off.
