Electro-Harmonix Attack Decay is a volume-envelope effect that recreates the reversed-tape swells of a circa-1980 pedal, adding a built-in fuzz and an effects loop. It is subtitled Tape Reverse Simulator and was released in 2019.

The pedal reshapes the volume of what you play rather than recording anything. Each note starts a fade-in at an adjustable speed and a fade-out at another. Slow settings give backward-tape swells, while fast settings cut notes into short staccato bursts. A sensitivity control sets how hard a note must be played to trigger a new envelope.
In mono mode one envelope runs at a time and restarts with each new note. Poly mode gives every note its own envelope, so chords and overlapping notes swell separately. The Harmonix section is a fuzz with its own gain, tone and volume controls.
The Send and Return jacks place the envelope on whatever signal arrives at the loop, so other pedals or a second instrument can be shaped by it. An expression pedal or control-voltage input reaches every knob, and three presets store settings. Bypass is buffered rather than true bypass.
