The King of Gear · United States
Overdrive · Distortion
The King of Gear Oxford Monarch is a two-channel overdrive and distortion pedal voiced around 1990s dirt sounds. The maker says the pedal replicates the circuits of several vintage effects and expands and modernises them, covering ground from clean boost to saturated distortion.
The Blue channel handles low to medium gain with a transparent character. A Mode toggle picks Drive, Distortion or Boost, and Boost adds a little grit with plenty of extra level. A Mids toggle chooses a brighter Vintage voice, suited to bass-heavy clean amps, or a more neutral Modern voice with fuller low mids. Gain, Level, Tone and Presence controls complete the channel.
The Gold channel covers medium to high gain. Its Circuit toggle switches between '88, which clips with red LEDs and uses an interactive three-band EQ, and '91, which uses silicon diodes, a contour-style Middle control and a reworked Treble control. Gain and Level sit alongside the EQ.
Each channel has its own true bypass footswitch with soft-touch switching. In Flip-Flop mode one press swaps between the channels, while a First toggle sets which channel comes first when both are on. The jacks are mounted on top of a compact 1590BB-size enclosure.
