About Line 6
The company was established in 1996, growing out of Fast Forward Designs — co-founded by Marcus Ryle, Michel Doidic and Susan Wolf — to bring modelling technology to guitarists. Early products included modelling amplifiers and the POD desktop multi-effects processor; the DL4 and related Stompbox Modeler pedals followed as board-friendly modelling effects.
Yamaha announced an agreement to acquire Line 6 in December 2013 (head office Calabasas), with completion expected in early 2014. The brand has since operated as a Yamaha subsidiary within what is now Yamaha Guitar Group, continuing to ship modelling pedals and processors used as complete rigs or as compact board units such as HX Stomp and HX Effects.
For players comparing modelling delays, compact amp-and-effects processors or Helix-class floor units, Line 6 is a primary US modelling brand.
