The two gain stages run in series. The first stage keeps the midrange focused, and the second adds the heavier clipping. Filtering before and after the distortion, seven stages in total, keeps the low end tight at high gain.
The EQ sits after the distortion and works as two concentric knob pairs. Low and High share one pair, while Middle and Mid Freq share the other. The mid frequency sweeps from 200 Hz to 5 kHz, so the same pedal can sound scooped for rhythm or push forward for leads.
Thick distortion and long sustain are available at low volume, which suits practice and clean amps used as a pedal platform. Bypass is buffered. A made-in-Japan MT-2W Waza Craft version and a 30th anniversary edition are separate models.
