Catalinbread Soft Focus is a reverb pedal that splits a modified plate into a chorus path, an octave-up path, and an untouched path. It was released in 2022. The starting point is the Yamaha FX500 Soft Focus patch, a reverb used by early 1990s shoegaze bands. This pedal is not a part-for-part copy of that patch.

The wet signal leaves the plate and splits three ways. Symphony mixes an octave-up into the wet reverb. Mod sets the rate of a multi-voice chorus, and it also shifts frequencies in the reverb. Verb sets the decay time. Mix runs from fully dry to fully wet. The controls also change the reverb tone, so they do not act as separate mixers.
The FX500 patch includes a fixed digital delay. Soft Focus leaves that delay out. Volume adds gain to the dry signal before the reverb. In buffered trails bypass, that control still works as a clean boost while the effect is off. The pedal is digital and mono.
