Bass Preamp · Overdrive · EQ · Released 1 January 2026
The EQ channel is flat with its knobs at noon. Bass, Middle and Treble work alongside a Vari control that boosts or cuts a sweepable frequency from about 20 Hz to 10 kHz. Three push buttons add fixed moves: Deep lifts 80 Hz, Process scoops the low mids and Bright lifts 5 kHz.
The Drive channel is based on a rare overdrive from Nakao's collection. Blend mixes clean signal back in to keep the low end intact. Bandwidth moves the clipping between the lows and the highs, and Tone rolls off treble.
The effects loop sits between the Drive and EQ channels, so extra dirt pedals can follow the drive and still pass through the EQ. A buffered parallel output sends the clean signal to a tuner, amp or separate chain. The XLR output adds light analogue cabinet filtering and has a ground lift. Switching is relay-based, so the pedal must be powered to pass signal.
EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls Bass Odyssey is a bass preamp pedal that pairs an active EQ channel with a tube amp-style drive channel. A balanced XLR output lets it feed a desk or interface without an amp. EarthQuaker developed it with Japanese bassist Kentaro Nakao and released it in 2026.
