JHS Colour Box V2 is a preamp, EQ and DI pedal modelled on the sound of a vintage Neve-style studio console. It accepts guitar, bass, keyboards or a microphone through a combined XLR and jack input.

Two gain stages run in series. Step raises the gain of each stage in five steps from +18 to +39 dB. Pre-Vol sets drive between the stages, and Master sets output. A Hi/Lo switch chooses between clean headroom and earlier breakup into overdrive and fuzz.
Treble, Middle and Bass each have a Shift knob that moves the band's centre frequency. A switchable 12 dB per octave high-pass filter trims low end from 160 to 650 Hz. A -20 dB pad tames hot microphones on the XLR input.
V2 added the output transformer, the Shift knobs, the Hi/Lo switch, silent switching and safe passing of 48 V phantom power. The enclosure is larger than V1, which had seven knobs.
