Compared with Plumes, the circuit has twice the gain and a deeper bass response, so the low strings keep their weight under drive. An internal bipolar supply raises the op-amp's operating rails, which gives the circuit more headroom than a standard single-rail design.
A three-way toggle picks the clipping. Symmetrical LEDs give the most crunch and compression. The middle position removes the diodes for straight op-amp drive, the loudest setting, and works as a clean boost with Gain below eleven o'clock. Asymmetrical silicon diodes give a fuzzier, more compressed sound with roughly half the output.
Below noon on the Gain knob, the voice stays close to Plumes; above noon the extra gain takes over. Guitarists in drop tunings can use it as well. The Flexi-Switch footswitch latches with a tap or works momentarily when held.
