The signal runs from an analogue octave up into a distortion modelled on the classic White Face unit, then into a clean MOSFET boost. A three-position clip control selects op-amp clipping without diodes, asymmetrical clipping with two silicon diodes and an LED, or the stock symmetrical silicon pair. A low-pass Filter control trims the top end.
The octave is an all-discrete full-wave rectifier, blended in with its own knob or swept with an expression pedal. Single notes above the twelfth fret on the neck pickup track best, while chords turn chaotic. At full blend, the distortion side moves towards a Super Fuzz-style octave fuzz.
Two footswitches split the pedal into octave distortion and boost, and each side works on its own. Unlike the Life Pedal V3, the HalfLife has no separate octave footswitch. Flexi-Switch relay bypass allows latching or momentary use and needs power to pass signal.

EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) HalfLife is an octave distortion and boost pedal that shrinks the Life Pedal circuit into an enclosure half the size. Released in 2026, it is the series-production successor to the limited HalfLife Fer MMXXV, which used a cast-iron Nanbu-tekki enclosure.
